We Celebrate 250 years in the City of Baltimore

October 2, 2011 - Opening Celebration
10:30 a.m. - Service of Worship in the Sanctuary
We will remember the past and give thanks to God for the life of The First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church. Included in the celebration is the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper.

1:30 p.m. - Luncheon at the Westminster Church and Burial Grounds on the corner of Greene St. and Fayette.  We’ll have drinks and appetizers in the burial grounds - where the early pastors of the church and yes, Edgar Alan Poe are buried and then head into the church hall for a marvelous luncheon and entertainment. The cost of the luncheon is $40.

October 30, 2011 - Scottish Roots

10:30 a.m. - Returning to our Scottish Roots in our sanctuary.Worship with the St. Andrews Society with bagpipes and drums. The service will include the Kirking of the Tartan and simple lined music.

 

 

 

February 2012 - Historical Displays in the Reid Chapel
Beginning on Febuary 23, 2012, many of the historical objects which normally reside in our safes will be exhibited in Reid Memorial Chapel. You will have an opportunity to view the old communion vessels, the 1717 “vinegar” Bible, historic books and papers, and the original walking stick, a gift from George Washington to our first pastor, Patrick Allison. There will be an opening reception.

March 11, 2012 - Joint Service of Worship with The Rev. Dr. Thomas Long

2:00 p.m. - A Joint Service of Worship with our Daughter and Granddaughter churches
We have invited back the churches which were founded by the old First Presbyterian Church to join us in celebrating our joint history. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Long will be our preacher for the service. Dr. Long is Professor of Homiletics  at Chandler School of Theology in Atlanta, GA. He has written numerous books on spirituality and preaching, and is an inspiring preacher.

April 15 - 22, 2012 - AIDS Quilt
In celebration of the church’s mission to the gay and lesbian community over the last 30 years we will be exhibiting a piece of the AIDS Quilt in Reid Memorial Chapel. We invite the community to come and learn a bit about the church’s ministry and the quilt. Various activities will be planned during its week-long display.

May 6, 2012 - Community Wide Celebration and Picnic
We plan to set up a tent on the street and move worship outside for the morning, inviting members of the community to join us in celebration. This will be followed by a community picnic with activities planned for children.
