News: September, 2017
RSVP by Sept. 20th to the church office. Lunch will be provided.
What's the meeting about? Back in May of 2017, representatives of the member churches of In the Loop voted unanimously to merge In the Loop's mission with the vision of Apostles and Disciples of Reconciliation, a group dedicated to creating space for racial reconciliation in the city. At that meeting, we nominated a work group to help us digest and interpret that decision. Our September 23rd meeting, which is to be held at First & Franklin, will bring the fruits of their labor as information but, even more importantly, for our collective formation.
In the spirit of in/formation, we have been engaging in "listening sessions" with our 12 member congregations. First & Franklin had its visit on August 16th. What, we asked, has your church been doing in terms of racial reconciliation? What do you hope to do? Come to find out what visitors heard and what other churches in our area are doing.
As we share, we also hope to connect the dots between congregations in our ministry group. Namely, where do our common passions come together? How can we partner in the work of reconciliation outlined by Apostles and Disciples? How can we use the organizational resources of In the Loop to advance the mission of racial reconciliation and peacemaking in Baltimore City?
In anticipation of our meeting on the 23rd, we are inviting participants to bring a symbol of their congregation's ministry of reconciliation. One person in our leadership group said that his church might bring a kitchen spoon, because, for that church, people don't enter the life of the church through the front door, but through the kitchen, through its ministry to the hungry and the hurting.
What would you bring as a symbol of First & Franklin's commitment to reconciliation in the city?
Please make every effort to attend this important meeting in our life of faith.
Plan to attend a brief Congregational Meeting following the service on September 10, 2017 to vote on the 2017-2018 budget and to vote on the new slate of officers for the Session and The Board of Deacons. Childcare will be available during the meeting.
