The Session of The First and
Franklin Street Presbyterian Church VOTED on January 7, 1980, to adopt the following
"More Light" policy statement:In harmony with the General Assembly of the
United Presbyterian Church, The First and Franklin Street Presbyterian Church, Baltimore
Maryland, affirms the rights of all persons. Further, in keeping with our General
Assemblys guidelines and in response to requests from persons who are concerned
about the churchs relationship with gay people, this congregation wishes to welcome
as members all persons who both seek and have found Christs love.
We want to be a congregation in which gay people will be welcomed as full participants
in the life and worship of the Body of Christ without having to deny or hide their sexual
orientation. We seek to be a congregation anxious and willing to receive more light on
questions of lifestyles, sexuality, feminism and mission and ministry with all peoples. We
affirm that in meeting each other in Christian love we will be free to live and grow,
liberated from the oppression invoked upon us by ourselves and others. Within this context
The First and Franklin Street Church reaches out to Christian and non-Christian homosexual
persons with ministry and support, caring and openness.
