You Know You're At First And Franklin When...

Home The following responses to the above statement were received at our Consecration Sunday Celebration Luncheon.

  • It's the only church all of the cab drivers know how to get to.

  • You hear someone say, "Welcome, please come back next week."

  • You are greeted with hugs and kisses.

  • You can talk about the beauty of the sanctuary without seeing the condition of the sanctuary.

  • You feel welcome the first time you walk through the door.

  • When you hear the beautiful music.

  • Jason (our music director) reminds you that there are two syllables in the word "our."

  • Because it's not work and it's not home.

  • It's okay for the tenors and basses to feel "pretty" in their choir robes.

  • You get asked to be on a committee before you have joined the church.

  • You understand the phrase, "Angels in the Architecture."

  • We sign the Gloria.

  • You see the Angel Fish.

  • The flowers bloom in the springtime and it reminds you of the Courtyard.

  • The first star you see at night reminds you of the Church steeple.

  • You feel welcomed by the members and the warm ceremonies and sermons.

  • You walk in and see the incredibly gorgeous sanctuary,
and are greeted by smiling faces,
and the powerful music is a ladder to a glorious God,
and the sermon is the voice used by God to speak to you, what you need to hear! Every week!

  • You are greeted like an old friend by younger members whose names you can't remember.

  • You see so many women playing an active role in the Church.

  • You see the grand architecture and stained glass windows.

  • You hear beautiful  music.

  • You leave church grateful for having been there.

  • You walk in for the first time - from out of town - and are greeted by a fish in a dress!

  • The first time you attend worship, the order of worship (pages and pages) lets you know where you are.

  • You couldn't find First Street.

  • You see the most beautiful church spire around.

  • Jason plays the organ.

  • Alison Halsey preaches and the choir sings.

  • Darlene answers the phone.

  • The centering prayer brings total stillness.

  • Someone wants to change or explore a possibility.

  • You walk into the sanctuary and find your thoughts heading skyward (or steeple-ward?).

  • You've heard wonderful music and you have to "be a good Presbyterian" and sit there in silence without clapping.

  • Everyone you meet is interested in keeping the faith.

  • You can be accepted and welcomed no matter what!

  • You forget to eat breakfast and there's a surprise breakfast or luncheon provided.

  • You see familiar, friendly faces.

  • You can have your own pew, week after week, year after year!

  • You hear the choir.

  • You see the fish in the Courtyard.

  • You find it impossible to answer the question, "What are the people like at First and Franklin?"

  • Because of the creativity of the service.

  • The outstanding variety and quality of the music.

  • The way it all comes together.

  • You can listen to fabulous music.

  • You can visit with old friends and meet new ones.

  • You hear our wonderful choir.

  • When you attend our unique Bible Study.

  • You participate in Sunday night Bible Study and hear many diverse points or view (re: scripture and many other different topics).

  • There's a surprise in the worship service format and/or music.

  • Someone appears in the congregation who used to be a member - and is returning to "home" - to worship with us again.

  • Applause and laughter breaks out during the service or after the music postlude.

  • You worship with our diverse congregation.

  • The choir is singing.

  • Chuong (our care taker) greets us at the front door with his beautiful smile and willingness to help.

  • You have discovered the address is Park and Madison.

  • When Nancy jumps up and signs the "Gloria."
