Thank you for visiting the First & Franklin Presbyterian Church website. You may have seen the 270-foot tall spire; or perhaps you drove down Park Avenue, alongside the purple ribbons outside the sanctuary; or perhaps you heard about a concert being held in our sanctuary; or you saw us on the evening news. Maybe you’re new to Baltimore and looking for a church home. Some people tell me that when they saw our church for the first time, they felt it would be formal and cold. But when they did venture through the doors, they found something traditional and, at the same time, uniquely warm. Our liturgy is, indeed, rich, going back to the ancient church. But as part of the world God so loves, we sing in the heart-languages of peoples from around the world. I won’t say we’re as culturally diverse as a London Heathrow or an LAX. But we are growing in diversity and unity. Through the Spirit, we harmonize our voices, languages, and different life experiences into the heart language of thanksgiving and praise. But it’s not all harmony. Sometimes, people have stories to tell, truths they have won through difficult trial, joys that have come through long seasons of struggle. Those voices bear witness, too. On Sunday, you will find a cheerful, colorful, and quirky congregation. Some say we’re “Franciscan funky and Calvinist strict”; still others, “pretty and gritty”; and others just call First & Franklin their home. If you should ever like to know more about First & Franklin, please join us for worship or reach out to me or one of our officers. Until we meet again!
