Advent Sermon Series: The Songs of the Season

The Songs of the Season is a five-part sermon series designed to guide us through the Advent season with reflections on beloved Christmas carols and scripture. Each Sunday, we’ll explore a different Advent hymn and theme, considering how these timeless hymns reveal truths about God’s love, presence, and peace in our lives.

Midweek Advent Communion
As part of our Advent journey this year, First & Franklin will offer a 30-minute worship service on Wednesday evenings during Advent at 6:00p in the chapel. This spiritual oasis in the midst of a busy season will include music, a brief meditation, and the celebration of the Lord’s Supper. Join us in the peaceful and serene chapel to reflect on the true meaning of this season. This year, we will welcome three friends of First & Franklin to offer the meditation each week.

ADVENT STUDY: Faithful: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph
From his humble beginnings as a carpenter to his pivotal role as the earthly father of Jesus, Joseph’s place in the Nativity story is sometimes overlooked. Yet, it contains valuable lessons for all of us. This study will use the book “Faithful: Christmas Through the Eyes of Joseph” by Adam Hamilton. Copies of the book are available for $10.00. Please speak with Rev. Mark Phillips for more information, a copy of the book, and the weekly Google Meet invite. All are invited to participate in this virtual Advent study, which will meet for four weeks on Monday evenings at 7:00p, beginning 1 December.
CHRISTMAS MOVIE NIGHT ~ Saturday 13 December, 5:00p ~ Backus House Parlor
Wear your favorite Christmas sweater and bring your favorite cookies to share. Popcorn and drinks provided. The movie will be "One Christmas" - A young man is sent to visit his estranged father for Christmas in 1930s New Orleans. Based on an autobiographical short story by Truman Capote. Family friendly (unrated). All are welcome!
CANDLELIGHT CHORAL CONCERT ~ Sunday 14 December 14, 4:00 pm
The Sanctuary Choir of First & Franklin Presbyterian Church presents the annual Candlelight Choral Concert, including Benjamin Britten's A Ceremony of Carols for women’s chorus, Conrad Susa's A Christmas Garland, and works by Eric Whitacre, Healey Willan, Franz Biebl, Morten Lauridsen, and Dan Forrest.
